The Milwaukee, Wisconsin based trial and litigation law firm, Gimbel, Reilly, Guerin & Brown, LLP has announced that it will be sponsoring the 21st Evening of Hope, the ALS Association-Wisconsin Chapter’s annual black tie gala to raise funds for ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease) research. The event, which began in 1993, will be held on March 8, 2014 at the Hyatt Regency in Milwaukee. The Evening of Hope planning committee anticipates over 700 people will attend the event featuring silent and voice auctions, dinner, speakers and dancing.

The 21th will feature special guest speaker, Emmy-winning CNN anchor, Suzanne Malveaux. Malveaux will share how ALS has personally touched her and her family, and specifically, how the disease has affected her mother, Myrna Malveaux, who has battled ALS for over two years. In July of 2013, Suzanne featured a special series on CNN to draw attention to the debilitating effects of the disease and share her family’s personal battle.

The Evening of Hope was the brainchild of Jeff Kaufman, a former partner of GRGB, who succumbed to ALS in March 2010. Kaufman, who battled the disease for 21 years (80% of those with ALS die with five years of diagnosis), led the charge in raising funds for ALS research along with his wife Jan, working tirelessly to organize and plan the Evening of Hope event.

GRGB’s Luczak Lead MU Moot Court Team to Regional Victory

The Milwaukee, Wisconsin based trial and litigation law firm, Gimbel, Reilly, Guerin & Brown, LLP is proud to announce that two of their attorneys, Jason Luczak and another GRGB attorney are serving as team coaches for one of Marquette University’s (MU) Moot Court teams. The pair recently led their team of oral advocates to a regional victory in the in the National Moot Court Competition (NMCC). The team will now advance to the National Moot Court Competition Finals in February 2014 in New York City. This is the first time since 1974 that an MU team has made it to the finals in this prestigious competition.

The National Moot Court Competition is one of nation’s oldest and most respected competitions. The event is co-sponsored by the New York City Bar Association and the American College of Trial Lawyers. This year’s regional events, which take place across the country in the month November, featured over 190 teams from 124 law schools. Only 30 of those teams will advance to the New York City finals, which are held in the House of the historic New York City Bar Association.

“It is a thrill to work with such skilled student lawyers,” Notes Luczak. “The maturity and growth they showed not only in preparation for the regional event, but also during competition were remarkable. I look forward to seeing their continued skill development as we prepare for competition in New York.”

Ms. Keppel, who is a partner at GRGB, recently represented a Centro Legal client who was a victim of domestic abuse in a complicated appellate matter. She devoted over fifty (50) hours of pro bono time in responding to motions and briefs filed by the client's incarcerated former spouse.

As Treasurer, Keppel will be responsible for reporting the financial status of the Appellate Section of the State Bar of Wisconsin. The purpose of this section according the Wisbar.org is to "bring together members of the State Bar of Wisconsin who have a special interest in the field of appellate practice and to encourage the communication and exchange of ideas between attorneys practicing in state and federal appellate courts."

Keppel is a longtime member of the Appellate Section Board and has also been a member of the Milwaukee Bar Association's Appellate Bench-Bar Committee. Keppel will serve in her new role as Treasure for a one-year term.

Keppel has been elected President of the Board of Directors for the ALS Association - Wisconsin Chapter. Keppel will serve in her role for a two-year term.

As President, Keppel will function as the liaison between the ALS Association - Wisconsin Chapter and the National Association, insuring that the Chapter operates within the policies and guidelines set forth on both the local and national levels. Additionally, Keppel will preside over all board meetings and will appoint all committee chairpersons.

Keppel has been a part of the ALS Association - Wisconsin Chapter for over 20 years, serving as a volunteer, member of the Evening of Hope planning committee, editor and contributor to The Hopeline and in various other fundraising roles. Luczak was elected President-Elect of the Milwaukee Young Lawyers Association. Luczak will hold the position of President-Elect for one year (July 1, 2013 - June 30, 2014) at which time he will assume the role of President for the next year (July 1, 2014 - June 30, 2015).

In his role as President-Elect, Luczak will serve on the board of directors under the current President. He will be asked to assume the role of President from time to time during his "elect" year in preparation for taking on the role of President in the preceding term. The fight to find a cure for ALS takes on a special meaning for the team at GRGB, as they walk in memory Jeff Kaufman, a former partner of GRGB, who succumbed to Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig 's disease, in March 2010. Kaufman battled the disease for 21 years (80% of those with ALS die with five years of diagnosis) and led the charge in raising funds for ALS research along with his wife, Jan.

The Milwaukee Walk to Defeat ALS is one of several such events that take place in the State of Wisconsin along with approximately 165 walks nationwide, each year. The combined efforts all of these events have raised over $137 million, towards ALS research since the year 2000. The three mile Milwaukee Walk to Defeat ALS starts at 10:00 a.m., with the check-in starting at 8:00 a.m.

Gleason, a New Orleans Saints Special Teams standout, is best known for blocking a punt that was recovered for a touchdown in the Saints' first home game post-Katrina. After his ALS diagnosis in 2010, he formed Team Gleason, dedicated to raising ALS awareness
